Unknown Portrait

The features of this Roman portrait share something with those of Elagabalus (emperor from 218 to 222 CE) but unlike Elagabalus who has only a moustache and sideburns this individual has a full beard and shorter hair. His hairstyle makes him more akin to the military emperors who came after, but he is probably a private individual

Location of Original:

Munich, Residenz 192

Transferred from the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke, Munich, 29-30 October 1991

Late C2-C3 CE
