So-called Helena

Roman portrait head.

Helena was the mother of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great, and died in 337. This portrait has been called Helena since antiquity, although it is unsure if it really is a portrait of her. She wears no jewellery, which would be most unusual for a member of the imperial family
