Women who had died were often portrayed on grave reliefs with a maid at their service. This example is unusual in that the deceased is accompanied by two maids. One is carrying her mistress’s jewellery box, the other helps put on her sandals. The relief is also unusual in that the dead woman is shown standing rather than seated
