This is one of many Roman copies of the nude female goddess, ultimately derived from the Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxiteles of the mid fourth century BCE. In this case, the pose is reversed, with the left hip and right shoulder raised. It has also been slightly reduced in size.
This cast was made from an earlier cast of an original sculpture now lost. It went missing from a collection in the German city of Kassel in the early nineteenth century
