Roman portrait head of an unknown young man.

With its smooth skin, neat hairstyle and look of serene dignity, this Roman portrait of an athletic young man may show the influence of fifth century BCE Greek sculptors. Whilst those artists portrayed idealised types, this head has too many individual characteristics — the eyes, shape of head, brows — to represent a young male athletic ideal
